It is the Endosymbiotic Theory.
Originally proposed by the Russian botanist Konstantin Mereschkowski in 1905, but popularised by by Lynn Margulis in her 1981 book "Symbiosis in Cell Evolution"
Evidence for the theory includes:
- Mitochondira and plastids have DNA of their own, distinct from nuclear DNA. It is in the circular form that bacterial DNA takes, and sequence data shows it is in fact closely related to certain types of bacteria.
- while some nuclear genes make proteins for the mitochondria and plastids, they also use their own DNA to make their own proteins. The ribosomes found in the organelles are identical to prokaryotic ribosomes (70s), and distinct from the eukaryotic ribosomes (80s).
- The inner membranes of the mitochondria and plastids are similar in composition to bacterial membranes, and different from the "normal" eukaryotic membrane.
- mitochondria and plastids reproduce by themselves, independently of division of the host cell.

I am a private pilot and I experienced this once when I flying a solo cross country,, but it was about half an hour after takeoff so I was fresh,, I paid more attention and realized that it was some kind of glare due to sun..
Had I seen this after 2hrs into flight I am sure I would be betting my backside that its was UFO. Flying takes its toll on pilots,, I have flown long flights with my instructors in hot California sun,, near the end both of us feeling and acting as if we just smoked a pot..
And this is especially true about manual flying (planes not equipped with autopilot), So that can explain this happening with ww2 fighter pilots,, u can imagine them sitting in that loud, vibrating cockpit for hours under tense situation

What is the name of my hearing condition?
I am a 25 year old male. My hearing is fine- and everything sounds just as loud today as it has any other day of my life. My problem is that for the last decade or so I have been having difficulty distinguishing between sounds. I hear a word and it sounds like gibberish because it could be any number of other words- or I listen to any given song and cannot tell at all what is being sung about (this happens with most songs for me even if they are turned up). I don't think my problem is ear related as much as it is brain related due to my inability to make sense of the information coming in. I also have trouble hearing what specifically someone is saying if there is background noise due to the conflict of sounds. Is there a name for what I have- and if so, could someone post a link so I can read up on it? Thanks.

Hello; I am an Audiologist.
There are two likely possibilities:
1) High-frequency sensorineural hearing loss. Yes, you PERCEIVE that your hearing has not changed, yet hearing loss typically fades so gradually that it is imperceptible, and what your hear still seems 'normal' to you. You can still distinguish tonal changes with a mild-to-moderate degree of loss, but the unvoiced consonant (p, h, s, f, th, t,) sounds are not heard. In quiet, and especially with people you know well, your brain will be able to fill in the blanks of what your ear misses. But in noisy/group environments or with people who have a different accent, you will find it more difficult to guess at what has been said.
2) Auditory Processing Disorder- This is when the ears do have normal sensitivity, but the brain pathways are not able to effectively process what is heard. This most often is noticed in grade school, typically as difficulty following multi-step directions and distinguishing letter sounds in phonics/spelling, as well as others. Many of these children are misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD (so it is not surprising that someone else suggested it). It is also seen in people who have had a stroke or other forms of brain damage/injury.
The best thing to do is to start with a comprehensive Audiological examination to assess your hearing acuity. If that is determine to be within normal limits, you can ask about an Auditory Processing assessment. Not all hearing centers do this, and many insurance companies do not cover it. If you live near a university or hospital with an Audiology program, you might want to go there.

Your comment about conflict of sounds due to background noise is a classic indication for mild hearing loss .. A doctor could also rule out neural problems.
Reply:Your hearing defect is TONE DEAFNESS because you hear and cannot understand. I dont know how it is to be corrected but refraining from taking intoxicated liquor or caffeine. I have the same problem but it started when a young girl.

I once saw a video on YouTube about a style of walking or running that involves taking the most direct route in a fluid movement. In the video, people scaled walls, jumped over fences, across buildings, over cars, in a very fluid, non-chalant manner. What is this called? I believe it starts with Jou- and was originated by a guy in France not that long ago.

These stand were around a few decades ago, and I am looking for one.
It is a peice of furniture. It has (almost like a coat hanger) arms at the top for mans suit jacket, and just under that is a pole that goes across for pants to hang over, and down lower there is a seat or a ledge for mens shoes etc.

Reply:Everyone who's telling you "valet" or "gentleman's valet" is correct. I bought one for my husband a few years ago from Bombay Company. Can't remember how much it cost, but it has held up pretty well.

I am trying to buy something for my husband, but I don't know what they are called..... can you help?
These stand were around a few decades ago, and I am looking for one.
It is a peice of furniture. It has (almost like a coat hanger) arms at the top for mans suit jacket, and just under that is a pole that goes across for pants to hang over, and down lower there is a seat or a ledge for mens shoes etc.
Can someone please help and tell me what they are called (and if anyone has seen one, where you can get one from)

Reply:Everyone who's telling you "valet" or "gentleman's valet" is correct. I bought one for my husband a few years ago from Bombay Company. Can't remember how much it cost, but it has held up pretty well.

Anyone know the name of a substance to paint on the back of rugs to keep them from slipping?
I have tried pads, etc., but I found one thing that works to stop rugs from sliding it's just that I need help to find it again. It's a white substance that's painted to the backside of the rug. The directions say to paint it on, leave it to dry and coat a second time within 12 hours. Problem is I tossed the jar not realizing how great it works. It's a rubberized substance that has held my runner in place (hasn't moved an inch in 2 weeks) on carpeted steps.
I have checked with Home Depot and a large crafts store but no luck. Also looked on-line but haven't found anything close.

Ok the fish kind of looked like a Bala Shark. However, it had a transparent (you could see through it somewhat) look to it and had a somewhat of a violet color to it. I had it in a fish tank full of goldfish, it lived quite long and it got big but it died when it jumped and injured itself.

The 12-member expedition to take an unprecedented peek at Earth's mantle left the Canary Islands on Monday with a new high-tech vessel and a robotic device named Toby that will dig up rock samples at the site and film what it sees.
The main site 鈥?there is at least one other in roughly the same area and a third is suspected 鈥?is about three miles below the surface of the Atlantic and located about 2,000 nautical miles southwest of the Canaries.
It is part of a globe-spanning ridge of undersea volcanos, the kind of structure that forms when Atlantic tectonic plates separate and lava surges upward to fill the gap in the Earth's crust.
But that apparently did not happen this time. Where there should be a four-mile-thick layer of crust, there is instead that much mantle 鈥?the very dense, dark green rock that makes up the deep inner layer of the Earth.
Scientists have seen chunks of mantle that have been spewed up with lava, but never such a large, exposed stretch.
"It is like a window into the interior of the Earth," Bramley Murton, a geophysicist who is taking part in the six-week mission, said Tuesday from the research ship RRS James Cook as it headed to the site, still five days away.
This exposed layer is irregularly shaped, about 30 miles long and perhaps that distance or more at its widest. It was detected about five years ago with sonar from a surface vessel.
There are two main theories as to what happened, Murton said: A fault ripped away huge chunks of crust, or in an area of crust-forming volcanoes, this area was mysteriously devoid of that outer material, Murton said.
Roger Searle of Durham University, one of the lead researchers, said the study aims to provide insight on everything from the chemistry of oceans to the mechanisms of how the Earth behaves under so much water.
The robotic device will land on the exposed mantle, deploy a drill, and dig into the rock to bring back samples.
The project is being financed by Britain's National Environment Research Council and the Department of trade and Industry's Large Scientific Facilities Fund.

The main site 鈥?there is at least one other in roughly the same area and a third is suspected 鈥?is about three miles below the surface of the Atlantic and located about 2,000 nautical miles southwest of the Canaries.
It is part of a globe-spanning ridge of undersea volcanos, the kind of structure that forms when Atlantic tectonic plates separate and lava surges upward to fill the gap in the Earth's crust.
But that apparently did not happen this time. Where there should be a four-mile-thick layer of crust, there is instead that much mantle 鈥?the very dense, dark green rock that makes up the deep inner layer of the Earth.
Scientists have seen chunks of mantle that have been spewed up with lava, but never such a large, exposed stretch.
"It is like a window into the interior of the Earth," Bramley Murton, a geophysicist who is taking part in the six-week mission, said Tuesday from the research ship RRS James Cook as it headed to the site, still five days away.
This exposed layer is irregularly shaped, about 30 miles long and perhaps that distance or more at its widest. It was detected about five years ago with sonar from a surface vessel.
There are two main theories as to what happened, Murton said: A fault ripped away huge chunks of crust, or in an area of crust-forming volcanoes, this area was mysteriously devoid of that outer material, Murton said.
Roger Searle of Durham University, one of the lead researchers, said the study aims to provide insight on everything from the chemistry of oceans to the mechanisms of how the Earth behaves under so much water.
The robotic device will land on the exposed mantle, deploy a drill, and dig into the rock to bring back samples.
The project is being financed by Britain's National Environment Research Council and the Department of trade and Industry's Large Scientific Facilities Fund.

Ok guys, this is going to sound strange but a long time ago i was in a reptile shop with my ex, and i remember i saw this odd looking reptile in this huge tank and it was about 12 inches or so long and it basically looked like a shelless turtle. It really bothers me that i can't find any information on what the heck it is, help!

well, its called Midnight Sun. But It wont be coming out soon if it ever does at all. I don't know if you heard about this, but Stephanie Meyers gave a copy of the first 12 chapters to her friend, and her friend posted them on the internet. When Stephanie Meyers found out, she was REALLY upset, and said that she may not ever finish the book, because if she kept writing Bella and Edward would probably both die.

well, its called Midnight Sun. But It wont be coming out soon if it ever does at all. I don't know if you heard about this, but Stephanie Meyers gave a copy of the first 12 chapters to her friend, and her friend posted them on the internet. When Stephanie Meyers found out, she was REALLY upset, and said that she may not ever finish the book, because if she kept writing Bella and Edward would probably both die.

I believe those are "patty pan" squash. They are a "summer squash" so they don't have to be scooped out or anything, the outsides are edible. You can slice it into chunks, boil it or saute it or bake it or micro wave it.
I like it cut into chunks and sauted in a little water till soft, then drain the water and add chunks of tomato and sour cream. Season with salt, pepper and oregano.

He would have the power to manipulate space, allowing him to crush or expand it to mold objects, or even keep their structures stable and unharmed while he freely manipulated them, sorta like how Jell-O keeps its shape after being manipulated. He could teleport himself using this ability, creating wormholes by pushing space apart and crushing his own spacial volume to fit through these wormholes. He could also blast waves of force to knock back enemies. All of his attacks, however, would be avoidable if someone was fast enough.
He would suck at using his abilities at first, but one day he would become very powerful.

What is the name of the adaptor I need to connect a PS2 to a tv?
The PS2 has 3 joined leads (red, yellow, white) which connect to the back of the tv.
But I have a new tv which has the scart socket instead of the 3 sockets. I know you can buy an adaptor to solve this problem, but what is the name of it?

You've got a ps2 with a composite A/V cable. There are fairly cheap adapters which will convert it to a SCART connection. You don't have to use online, just go to a local electronics store, they should have one.
Before you do that, though, where did you get the ps2? I thought UK ps2's were generally sold with SCART, not composite A/V. Composite is the American standard. Check the back of the ps2, for the serial number, the one after the letters "scph." If it ends in 2 (or 3) you're fine. But if it ends in 0 or 1, it's NTSC and no adapter will make it work on a UK standard-definition tv. You'd have to go HD, or get an ntsc tv. Or a more expensive ntsc-to-pal converter.

He did this by placing before his subjects a frame that was designed to have a ball baring put in the top. The ball baring would then either pop to the left or to the right.
