I think it's a popular junior-high school science experiment. I remember it, along with the "who-can-roll-their-tongue" experiment, but can't remember what it is called.
What is the name of the chemical that some people can taste and others cannot?
Phenylthiocarbamide (PTC).

Reply:Thiourea is another commonly used chemical. It generally eleicits the same type of response as PTC, however some people will taste one and not the other.
