First Homer doesn't like it, but then he ends up working there. I can't remember the name of the store, but I think it's supposed to be like Walmart. I'd like to share it with my Econ class.
What is the name of the Simpsons episode in which a new discount store is built?
That sounds exactly like a Family Guy episode, too, where a Walmart-like place is built in town and Peter ends up working there.
Reply:Season 20. Episode 7. "Mypods %26amp; Broomsticks".
- "Bart befriends a Muslim boy and invites him and his parents to dinner, only for Homer's paranoia to get the better of him, but when Homer goes over to their house to apologize, he sees the father with sticks of TNT and thinks he's going to blow up Springfield Mall; Lisa gets a Mapple Mypod - and a bill for over 1200 downloaded songs at 99 cents each."

The students of Springfield Elementary go on a field trip to the Springfield Glacier. Unfortunately, the glacier has melted heavily, becoming little more than a lake. Lisa claims that the melting must be due to global warming. The park ranger disputes this, saying that the government’s position on global warming is that it does not exist. Bart makes Lisa's entire trip a living nightmare, from tripping her on the bus to making a bad drawing of her for everyone to see. Lisa soon starts desperately pleading with the students to accept global warming, to no success. Bart begins tormenting and humiliating her even more. Lisa gets more and more upset, eventually ending up being pushed into the water after Bart threw a snowball at her and being thought to have farted consciously. The kids get back on the bus. Lisa, now absolutely furious, promises swift revenge against Bart. Meanwhile, Homer and Marge go shopping at the local Sprawl-Mart, where Grampa has the job of store greeter. He soon causes an accident that puts him out of action and Homer takes over his job. Homer does such a good job that the manager says Homer can get a full time position.
The next day, it transpires that Lisa has had a restraining order filed against Bart. Bart is forced to be 20 feet (6 m) away from Lisa at all times, or he will face legal consequences. Chief Wiggum shows the family a videotape hosted by Gary Busey (who has about 15 restraining orders due to "being too real"), "Get Out of My Dreams and Also Out of My Car: A Guide to Your Restraining Order", which teaches Bart how to live with a restraining order. To make the restraining order easier to enforce, Homer makes a 20-foot pole with a screwdriver on one of the ends to keep them apart. However, this drastically affects Bart's life at home and school, where Principal Skinner assigns Groundskeeper Willie to be his new teacher. After seeing Bart so depressed and Lisa enjoying terrorizing him, Marge makes an appeal in court to get the restraining order removed. Bart unintentionally antagonises and insults Judge Constance Harm, which leads to her increasing the restraining order to 200 feet (61 m). Bart can now only live at the edge of the Simpson family property. While he lives there, his begins to embrace the nature surrounding him. He lives with feral dogs and goes to the toilet in the backyard. Marge watches with ever increasing anxiety, concerned he is losing his sanity.
At Sprawl-Mart, Homer is forced to work overtime without being paid and locked in the store after hours. When he complains, Homer is painfully electrocuted. The manager reveals that he had a “compliance chip” embedded in his neck during the company physical. When he leaves, Homer immediately rips it out when he momentarily has brain damage. He offers to do the same for the other employee but they reveal that they took their chips out years ago and have been staying to steal numerous items from the store ever since. Homer leaves the store forever, taking several plasma TVs with him on a stolen forklift, saying he will return to steal the tall kitchen bags.
Bart is still in the backyard, now wrestling with a dog for a steak. Marge is now upset with Lisa that she would stoop this low, especially to her brother. She pleads with Lisa to forgive him. But she claims that Bart has never done three nice things for her in his life. Marge points out two (bringing homework to her while she was sick, and cheering her up after her pet hamster died, by putting Homer's hand between two buns of bread and making him bite it constantly, as if it were a hotdog) and Lisa looks out the window, where she sees that Bart has made a giant statue of her made out of straw. She happily runs out to meet him, but the school bullies turn up and reveal that they were intending to burn the statue. Lisa is initially disheartened, but after Bart tells her that the fire represents her musical ability, she admits she missed his lies and burns the restraining order and the poking pole along with the statue. The family reunites and play the song Tijuana Taxi.
