Can I give my newborn my maiden name and the fathers name if not married?

It is totally up to you which name to name your newborn.

My daughter has a 7 year old whom she had with a bf who wanted her to have an abortion. My daughter figured out that this guy would not be around much. And so she used her last name for the baby. It would of been difficult to be a kid have a different name as her mom especially in school and for legal things. The dad loves the kid but is rarely around.

Then 2 years ago she had a baby with her new boyfriend who is a keeper. And another baby due in Jan/08. That baby has the dad's last name, The little girl due in January will have the dad's last name. Eventually they hope to marry.

Eventually my daughter %26amp; her daughter will change their last names so that the entire family has the same last name.

It is up to you what to name the child. If you believe the guy will be around for the lifetime of the kid and you feel comfortable with giving your child that name, then do it.

I would advise that if the father can't be depended on being around and activly in the childs life give the baby your last name.

Names can always be changed in the future

Can I give my newborn my maiden name and the fathers name if not married?
You can do whatever you want but I do think if you want to get child support that there are some specifics about the child having the fathers last name, I could be wrong but you might look into it!
Reply:You can name her whatever you want.

Most unmarried women give their child their last name, but that is up to you.

If I was unmarried, I would give her my last name. I would want to have the same last name as my child. It is easier. My mother was married to my dad and we got his last name. Things didn't work out and she got divorced and later remarried making her last name and my last name different.

It caused problems with my school when I grew up having a different last name as both my parents.

Name her whatever you want though. Also, don't feel like you HAVE to give her your boyfriend's name.

When it comes time to fill out the certificate, the MOTHER is the one that is asked to fill it out not the father.

It is the mother's decision.
Reply:You can do what you want when you name your child. You can chose to have one or the other or both
Reply:your baby can have what ever name you want her to have
Reply:Your kid can have whatever name you want her to have.
Reply:If you aren't married you can give the baby whatever last name you want, but you might have to change it eventually. If you don't plan on marrying the father and want both last names then hyphenate them.
Reply:You can!!!:)

I intend to do the same

Weird enough: my mama gave me both names (my father's and hers) tho they were married.

Now, I only use my mama's name (it's a choice we made, my brother and I since my dad died when I was 5 and I never got to even meet his family) ... So now, my brother's children only have my mom's maiden name, and mine will have both my mom's maiden name and my bf's name;) It feels good, especialy that my grandpa only had three girls!!! :D Plus : why is it always the fathers name??? its a silly sexist tradition ;)
