Well it doesn't quite check for your brains :-D but it's called an auriscope.
EDIT: I wonder if the name is an English vs. American thing? A quick straw poll of colleagues at St.Thomas' Hospital, London today had most calling it an auriscope. The only ones calling it an otoscope were a U.S.-trained nurse and a doctor from Trinidad.
Interesting...
What is the name of that thing the doctor uses to look into your ear and check you for brains?
The name I am more familiar with is "otoscope." They use it to examine the ear canal and to visualize the ear drum.
Reply:It's called otoscope in vet medicine too. Though generally we're checking the ear canal and not looking for brains. Hehehehe, most dogs don't have those anyway!
Reply:It's called a "Democrat Detector." If there is a brain in the skull, then the patient is a Democrat.
