In one of my classes I saw paintings of a person who saw visions of heaven and hell and painted them. They were very vibrant in color sort of cartoon-ish looking. This person might have been a priest. Does anyone know who I am talking about?

poet, prophet, painter...all around odd bird. He might not be the one you have in mind but did do exactly what you describe.
Reply:It is William Blake. Was one of the pictures called "Ghost of a Flea"? He also did a beautiful painting of God creating the universe and one called the Marriage of Heaven and Hell. It was William Blake. The quality of the reproductions will vary with the source.
